Who we are

RateMyTaxProfessional runs this website, a directory of US tax professionals (Enrolled Agents and CPAs) who work outside the United States. We are not a tax advisor, and a listing is not an endorsement. To contact us about this notice or your information, use ourreport form.

What we publish about firms

For each listed firm we publish:

• the firm’s name, which for some sole practices includes the practitioner’s own name
• the town and country of its office, and for UK offices the postcode district
• its website
• whether it has an Enrolled Agent or CPA credential, and whether we have checked it
• the services, specialties and languages it describes on its own website

We do not publish the names of individual staff, street addresses, phone numbers or personal email addresses.

Where the information comes from

• The IRS list of preparer tax identification number (PTIN) holders, which the IRS releases under the US Freedom of Information Act. It shows who holds an Enrolled Agent or CPA credential.
• The firm’s own public website.

Why we use it

We publish this information to help Americans living abroad find qualified US tax help. Under UK and EU data protection law, where a listing includes a person’s name our lawful basis is legitimate interests. We only use business information that is already public, we leave out personal contact details, and anyone named can ask us to correct or remove their listing.

Visitors to this website

We show advertising from Google AdSense. To do this, every page loads a script from Google, and Google may set cookies or use similar technologies on your device to show ads, measure them and limit fraud. Google decides how it uses that information; seehow Google uses information from sites that use its services. If you’re in the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, Google asks for your consent before using cookies for advertising, and you can change your choice at any time from the privacy and cookie settings link that Google shows on the page. We don’t use analytics, and we don’t set any cookies of our own. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes technical information such as IP addresses to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We don’t use that information to identify visitors.

Reports and removal requests

Our report form is a Google Form, so Google processes what you send on our behalf. We use it only to deal with your request, and we keep a record of removals so a removed listing isn’t added back.

How long we keep information

Listings stay on the site while the information is current and no one has asked us to remove them. We keep reports for as long as we need them to deal with the request and keep that record of removals.

Sharing and international transfers

Listings are public and can be viewed anywhere. Our service providers, Cloudflare and Google (for the report form and advertising), may process information in the United States and other countries.

Your rights

If a listing includes information about you, you can ask us to give you a copy of it, correct it, delete it, or stop using it. Use our report form. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) or the data protection authority where you live.

Changes

If we change this notice, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
